Beautiful Nepal: A Himalayan Adventure

Welcome to Nepal

After marveling at Bhutan’s hidden beauty, your next stop should be the breathtaking country of Nepal. Nestled along the spine of the Himalayas, Nepal offers travelers an enchanting mix of sublime scenery, ancient temples, and some of the best hiking trails in the world.

Scenic Splendor and Cultural Treasures

Nepal is a land of dramatic landscapes and rich cultural heritage. This Himalayan nation has captivated the Western imagination for centuries, and it’s easy to see why. From picturesque views to famous temples and a soothing climate, Nepal has it all. The country’s diverse topography means that weather can vary wildly from one district to another, with temperatures falling and rainfall decreasing as you ascend higher. In the high-altitude deserts of the Tibetan Plateau, temperatures hover just above freezing year-round, and rain is almost nonexistent.

The Kingdom of Nepal

Officially known as the Kingdom of Nepal, this strategic South Asian country is bordered by China (Tibet) to the north and India to the south, east, and west. Remarkably, 80% of Nepalese follow Hinduism, making it the most Hindu-centric nation in the world. The landscape ranges from the lush Terai in the south to the towering Himalayas in the north. Nepal is also home to eight of the world’s fourteen highest mountains, including the iconic Mount Everest on the border with China.

Kathmandu and Beyond

Kathmandu, the capital and largest city, is a treasure trove of tourist attractions. From historic temples to bustling markets, there’s something for everyone. Other notable cities on the Nepal tourism itinerary include Bharatpur, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Birgunj, Janakpur, Pokhara, Nepalgunj, and Mahendranagar. The origin of the name Nepal remains a mystery, but some historians believe it is derived from ‘Ne’ (holy) and ‘pal’ (cave).

Rich History and Modern Challenges

Nepal’s history is as rich and diverse as its landscape. After a long and prosperous past, the country became a constitutional monarchy in 1990. However, the monarchy retained significant powers, leading to a civil war that claimed over 13,000 lives. The king dissolved parliament and sacked the prime minister in 2002, assuming executive powers in 2005 by declaring a state of emergency. Despite these challenges, Nepal is now peaceful and steadily attracting tourists from around the globe.
